The Steyr Aug has been around for over 40 years. Despite its long history, it is still used as a symbol of futuristic rifle innovation and its specs are still applied to the latest firearm technology. The Steyr AUG began its journey as the Stg-77 (Sturmgewehr 77). Initially adopted in 1988 by the Austrian army, then featured in multiple movies including James Bond and Die Hard. First imported into the US in the 80’s, the price of existing rifles in the US dramatically increased after the 1989 Assault Weapon Import ban which affected their legality. In 2004 the ban was lifted and Steyr Arms worked with Sabre Defense to produce parts legally in the U.S.
