If it’s been a long time since you began a new work, you may feel a variety of emotions as you begin your new employment. However, you create your initial impression during your first weeks at new work, and it’s difficult to modify people’s impressions after they’ve formed. The author offers five suggestions for easing into a new work, particularly if it’s been a long time since you’ve changed jobs. To begin, concentrate on developing relationships. Second, learn about the organization and its culture. Third, acquire a sense of how your job is seen by others within the organization. Fourth, discover who needs something from you and what you rely on to be able to offer it by understanding dependencies and cross-functional processes. Last but not least, allow yourself time to acclimate to your new position.
