Special ops force calls for ‘untethered’ tool for recon and resupply | Defense News

Much of the Special Operations Command’s equipment has now tethered to radio frequencies. The change will allow systems function autonomously in hostile communications situations. The special reconnaissance unit focuses on increasing the autonomy of its technologies, particularly its aerial drones. Gen. Richard Clarke: SOCOM will dispose of drones with a particular purpose; the next generation must accomplish more. 

Commanders examine methods to deliver essential gear, equipment, supplies, and replenishment in harsh environments. Col. Joseph Blanton states, “We’re attempting to comprehend the space, untethered logistics, and restricted supply class at the tactical edge.” He believes that observing the work of other organizations in space may be instructive.
