Special Operations Wing commander visits PFAS-affected dairies near Cannon AFB | My High Plains

Must Read

In October of 2018, Clovis dairy farmer Art Schaap discovered his water was tainted with PFAS chemicals. According to a March 2021 article, Schaap has been compelled to dump tens of millions of pounds of milk, resulting in a loss of millions of dollars in revenue.

Groundwater at both the Cannon and Holloman Air Force Bases were contaminated after PFAS chemicals in firefighting foam used by the US Department of Defense damaged groundwater. Over the last year, government officials have stated that they have been working on ways to clean up the chemicals, and the EPA has classified many PFAS chemicals as “hazardous” under federal law, opening up more options for dealing with the pollution through federal waste laws.
