SpaceX Asks U.S. Military to Help Fund Starlink in Ukraine, Can No Longer Afford | Atlas News

Must Read

The U.S. has received a formal request from SpaceX.

The Starlink program in Ukraine depends on military funding in the tens of millions of dollars; otherwise, the company would be unable to continue providing terminals and services to the Ukrainian military. The firm is unable to comply with the Ukrainians’ request to send another 8,000 terminals to their nation. Musk tweeted that the “operation has cost SpaceX $80 million and will exceed $100 million by the end of the year.” These costs run the risk of forcing the company, which has donated these services without charge, into bankruptcy. As of now, roughly 20,000 Starlink satellite units have been donated to Ukraine. In a letter from September to the Pentagon that was made public by CNN, SpaceX’s director of government sales stated, “We are not in a position to further contribute terminals to Ukraine, or fund the existing terminals for an unlimited period of time.”
