There has been a significant surge in Chinese nationals illegally crossing the border from Mexico into South Texas, creating a strain on Border Patrol resources. Â
The Rio Grande Valley Sector chief has reported a surge in Chinese nationals illegally crossing the border from Mexico into South Texas. The strain on Border Patrol resources has increased due to a language barrier and the complexities of processing. The sector has encountered over 1,667 Chinese nationals in Fiscal Year 2023, with a 920% increase compared to Fiscal Year 2022. The number of Chinese migrants encountered in the RGV Sector increased by over 200% from January to February, with the majority being single adults. This is a significant increase from October 2022, when only 30 Chinese nationals crossed between legal ports of entry.Â
