Humanitarian Air Bridge will bring critical supplies to Somalia’s inaccessible regions.
The EU is establishing a Humanitarian Air Bridge to transfer critical supplies to Somalia’s inaccessible regions: This will be a significant logistical effort requiring an estimated fifty to seventy planes. On July 6, the first aircraft carrying 6.5 tonnes of therapeutic nutrition and medical supplies has scheduled to travel to the Elbarde area in southwestern Somalia. The EU and its Member States supply more than 35 percent of Somalia’s humanitarian assistance. The nation currently faces an extraordinary projection of a fourth consecutive failed rainy season, exacerbated by persistent fighting, political instability, and an invasion of desert locusts. The EU provided €61 million in 2022 for humanitarian programs in Somalia, mostly in response to the current drought.
