SOCOM shows interest in hybrid, AI-enabled vehicles | National Defense

In the hopes of bolstering its ground vehicle fleet with new capabilities, US Special Operations Command is exploring what emerging technologies have to offer. According to Navy Commander Tom Hawkins, SOCOM has invested in the research, development, testing, and evaluation of vehicles in lightweight armor, hybrid-electric systems, advanced situational awareness, and autonomy/semi-autonomy. Up to date, SOCOM owns different vehicle platforms, including non-standard commercial vehicles and mine-resistant ambush-protected platforms, light tactical all-terrain vehicles, and Ground Mobility Vehicle 1.1.
