Army Gen. Richard Clarke said while speaking to the Military and Reporters and Editors Association conference in Arlington that Navy SEALs will expand their role in the future to help inform allied commanders about enemy positions and intentions. SEALs have had a disproportionately large role in the conflicts in southwest Asia since 9/11. General Clarke says their work will expand to include strategic reconnaissance as they can insert themselves in places no one else can. With the greater special operations community more integrated than ever before the commander is confident the new initiative will be as successful as the direct-action capabilities of the past.
