In an effort to fill its fighter shortage, Russia is recruiting at homeless shelters.

Last month, representatives of the Russian government paid a visit to a shelter run by the nonprofit Nochlezhka with the intention of distributing fliers touting contracts with the Russian military and the virtues of service. A spokesman for Nochlezhka verified the event to Newsweek and stated that the organization did not permit such activities. They said, “Nochlezhka is not ready to be an intermediary in this campaign; therefore, we informed them they could not distribute their materials. Afterwards, they left our shelter they later departed our refuge”.  according to spokesperson Tatyana Bazhenova, who talked to Newsweek.
