Retired U.S. Army sergeant major paved way for EOD technicians in elite Special Forces unit | DVIDS

One of the original members of the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (Airborne) and one of the group’s first EOD techs was Army Sgt. Maj. Mike R. Vining. 

Vining’s involvement in numerous American military operations that shaped the second half of the 20th century as an expert in explosive ordnance disposal and a member of the elite Special Forces is what has drawn so much attention to his Army career. Vining was admitted to the United States. Hall of Fame for the Army Ordnance Corps in 2018. After nearly three decades of service, Vining hung up his highly decorated uniform. He claimed he had no idea that his illustrious career would eventually inspire a tidal wave of memes.
