It has been shown that some emotions, such as love fear, and joy, have a significant impact on how some organizations operate. Despite how frequently companies use hope when working toward difficult goals, hope is one emotion that has received little attention. No matter how strongly the company is filled with hope, leaders must accept that failure is also a possibility when they lay out a broad vision. To learn more about how optimism impacts a team, the authors conducted study in a center devoted to helping human trafficking victims recover from their trauma. They discovered that executives may need to encourage a more realistic kind of hope that accepts both the highs and the lows and can be modified when businesses experience difficulties or setbacks.
