Parris Island in peril: Rising sea levels threaten historic Marine base | Marine Corps Times

As the sea levels continue to rise, the Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island, South Carolina, is in peril. According to them, nothing is visible which calls for immediate action before it becomes a crisis. Currently the local troops have yet to express concern amid the pandemic as they have learned to “adapt and overcome” with new procedures and protocols to keep budding Marines from catching COVID-19. However, there are several roads that appear to be sitting just a few feet from the water at low tide. The Union of Concerned Scientists has predicted that by the end of the century the sea levels surrounding the Marine base could rise by 4 feet and 6.4 feet.
