Thousands of CrossFit competitors and gym-goers will descend on the gym next week with one goal in mind: to pay tribute to America’s fallen military men. The Travis Manion Foundation hosts the annual “Manion WOD” (Workout of the Day) event on April 29 at CrossFit sites and other gyms around the nation (TMF). CrossFit clubs will occasionally put out a “workout of the day,” or WOD, to memorialize departed heroes who were engaged in the CrossFit community, according to Ryan Manion, president of the Travis Manion Foundation. Several facilities have committed an exercise to Manion’s brother, 1st Lt. Travis Manion, who was murdered by an enemy sniper in Iraq in April 2007 while attempting to rescue his injured colleagues to safety. Manion was 26 years old at the time. According to Manion, the purpose of the “Manion WOD” is to “galvanize communities” around commemorating “all of our departed military men who have sacrificed their lives.”
