The island of Okinawa witnessed a flock of MC-130J Commando IIs flying in formation. The planes originated with the 1st Special Operations Squadron who use them for infiltration, exfiltration and resupply for allied forces in austere environments.
The MC-130J falls under the C-130 family and was first flown in 2011. Full delivery of the planes is yet to be completed, with the date of full deployment set for 2025.
The Lockheed Martin system is powered by 4 Rolls-Royce turboprop engines, it can reach speeds of 362 knots, lift 162,000 pounds, fly for over 3,000 miles and is suitable for air refueling.
