Matthew Anthony Marshall, a 51 year old residing in Whitefish, MT, faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release for wire fraud, tax evasion, and money laundering. He was pretending to be a former CIA operative and Force Recon Marine running “off the books” rescue operations. He was recently charged after defrauding a man of over $2 million.
He began defrauding the victim in 2013 while they were both in Montana. He asked the victim to fund his supposed rescue operations, but he apparently spent the money on gifts for friends and family and personal expenses. He was never a member of the CIA or Force Recon, he did serve as a Marine Reservist but received an other-than-honorable discharge for missing over 80 training events.
