Kazakhstan updates military doctrine, seemingly with Russia in mind | Eurasianet

Must Read

Kazakhstan has updated its military policy, some of which looks to be a response to the increased concerns brought on by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The modifications, which were made and approved by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on October 24, are stated to have been designed to “adequately adapt to new threats and hazards. “The materials address two threats: “the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction over the world” and “the development of weapons of mass impact based on novel physical principles.” The threat posed by cyberattacks on military information systems, infrastructure intended to support everyday civilian life, and the nation’s “military-economic potential” is also mentioned. Another term for the use of information spread by the media is a present risk. In order to advance its strategic reasons outside of its boundaries, Russia has been very active in using propaganda, whether overtly through social media or explicitly through its own state media.
