According to state media, high-ranking officials have been jailed on accusations of espionage, including Karim Massimov, the former chairman of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee. The country’s central bank has also temporarily halted currency transactions, citing the need to protect the exchangers and their personnel and clients.
