The government has resigned, a state of emergency has been declared, and soldiers from a Russia-led military coalition have been dispatched to assist quell the turmoil. According to state media, high-ranking officials have been jailed on accusations of espionage, including Karim Massimov, the former chairman of Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee. The country’s central bank has also temporarily halted currency transactions, citing the need to protect the exchangers and their personnel and clients.
