The persecution of religious and racial minorities by the Iranian dictatorship has reached a new high.
In the past three months, some of the most brutal attacks on protestors have taken place in provinces home to minorities like Kurds, Arabs, Sunnis, and Balochis. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, its paramilitary organization the Basij, and the regime’s security forces all seem to be participating. Adam Coogle, Human Rights Watch’s deputy director for the Middle East, emphasized that the IRGC’s strikes “on residential areas in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (are) part of a long history of murderous attacks on civilians, notably during the war in Syria.
