GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany – A pivotal conference hosted by U.S. special operators, named Silent Warrior 23, commenced in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, aiming to strengthen multinational efforts against terrorist groups in Africa. Lt. Col. Lolo Bokwe of Botswana, who previously led a successful mission against ISIS in Mozambique, is among the key participants. The conference, attended by military officials from over 20 African countries and several other nations, is organized by the U.S. Special Operations Command Africa. Discussions are centered on enhancing cooperation to counter major extremist threats across the continent, including al-Shabab in Somalia, ISIS, and al-Qaida affiliates in the Sahel, and ISIS in Mozambique. U.S. Africa Command’s Gen. Michael Langley emphasized the importance of allies and partners in these operations, while acknowledging the challenges posed by political upheaval in regions like the Sahel. The conference highlights the U.S. military’s multifaceted role in Africa, focusing on advisory and training missions to bolster local forces against terrorist networks.
