The world learned in October that American special operations forces have been stationed in Taiwan in a training capacity.
This is not a new development for those familiar as SOF have been working with partner nations around the globe for decades. These trainings bolster US presence worldwide and create alliances that can be called upon in times of need.
This practice is known as foreign internal defense and is a main focus during Special Forces qualification. Reducing the amount of support a partner force needs during conflict through training beforehand is a high ROI activity.
Long term successful partnerships are often the result of this mutually beneficial process.
