The new zero-trust strategy for the Defense Department defines its zero-trust vision to enhance security, user experience, and overall mission performance while achieving information supremacy. 

It is one of a family of initiatives within the National Defense Strategy (NDS). The awaited strategy offers direction for advancing the idea of zero trust and includes requirements gathering, gap analysis, zero trust capability development, and investment that will have the significant cybersecurity impact required within the department to defend against malicious actors. The department’s digital modernization strategy includes a zero-trust component that is in line with President Joe Biden’s executive order on strengthening national cybersecurity, which takes effect in 2021.
