According to an official, India’s Defence Research and Development Organization’s (DRDO) leading R&D laboratory is developing “rat cyborgs” to aid in security services’ recovery operations and intelligence surveillance.
P Shiva Prasad, Director of DRDO’s Young Scientist Laboratory (DYSL-AT), said after the World Science Congress session that a team of DRDO’s Young Scientist Laboratory is working on these rat cyborgs, which will have cameras placed on the head and electronic commands will be used to guide them using semi-invasive brain electrodes. He added that remote-controlled robots used in ISR missions encounter maneuverability challenges such as accessing tight locations and climbing walls.
