The Indian Army has finalized plans to equip its Special Forces (SF) battalions with 750 indigenous remotely piloted aerial vehicles (RPAVs).
New equipment to be purchased using the emergency procurement fast-track procedure to meet critical operational requirements amid the ongoing border standoff with China in the Ladakh sector, officials familiar with the development said on Tuesday. According to the document, RPAV is a powerful situational awareness system that enables day-night surveillance as well as the capacity to scan the target area and generate a processed 3D image to execute unique missions. The discovery comes as the army has increased its attention on purchasing a variety of unmanned systems, including various types of unmanned aerial vehicles, surveillance drones, and unmanned ground vehicles.
