The Unusual History of the CIA’s Bizarre Mind-Control Program
This week, “Doctor Delirium and the Edgewood Experiments” premieres on Discovery+. The documentary examines medical experiments undertaken in Maryland for two decades. Thousands of troops were exploited as test subjects while being administered a range of chemicals deliberately and unwittingly. The participants were given a wide variety of drugs, including PCP, LSD and BZ, and examined on whether they could function or fight. BZ was finally weaponized, but it was never used in battle, and all stocks were destroyed after the Cold War. Many subjects who were never informed what they were being subjected to claim that it is impossible to understand what was done to them.
Multiple individuals filed a complaint against the Central Intelligence Agency in 2009. The court found that the veterans were qualified for full medical benefits.
