The RAND Corporation published a recent report that Army SOF is critical to deterring Russian aggression. Army Special Forces in particular must utilize their relationship building ability to strengthen ties with Eurasian region allies and gain a better understanding of the situation on the ground. The report recommended specifying guidelines for SOF within Army doctrine especially concerning Multi-Domain Operations, and the long-term embedding of special operations troops within partner countries as part of a continuing strategy. The report also recommended that direct engagement, including unconventional or information warfare, with Russia should be kept to a minimum and carefully weighed against potential risk or fallout.
