House candidate called himself a combat vet. Records show he wasn’t | Airforce Times

Must Read

J.R. Majewski, a Republican running for a congressional seat in northwest Ohio, describes himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed there following the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

He once spoke of the “tough” conditions there, including the lack of running water that made him go more than 40 days without taking a shower. The Associated Press’s review of military information received through a public records request paints a different picture. According to them, Majewski never traveled to Afghanistan but instead spent six months assisting in the loading of aircraft at an air base in Qatar, a steadfast friend of the United States that is located far from the conflict. One part of Majewski’s narrative that raises doubts is his account of his time serving in the military Exaggerations, conspiracies, discussion of aggressive action against the U.S. government, and sporadic financial difficulties have characterized his post-military career. Majewski’s team declined to make him available for an interview and did not explicitly address concerns about his claim of deployment to Afghanistan in a long statement provided to the AP.
