A memorial ruck and food drive were held on September 28 at Goodfellow Air Force Base to honor the memories of Airman 1st Class Elizabeth Jacobson.
The 17th Security Forces Squadron members arranged the event. Col. Matthew Reilman, commander of the 17th Training Wing, saw this occasion as an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifice she and other service personnel had made while serving their country. On September 28, 2005, Jacobson, then 21, made the ultimate sacrifice by becoming the first Security Forces Airman and the first female Airman to die in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Goodfellow’s South Gate is named in her honor.
