Matthew McPherson, a 45 year old man residing in Olathe, Kansas was sentenced to 28 months in prison without the chance for parole for defrauding a government program intended to assist companies owned by service-disabled minorities. He is also ordered to pay back $5 million of the profit he made from over the $340 million his company was given. According to the DoJ, McPherson and his co-conspirators established a construction company in 2009 and made Stephon Ziegler, a black service-disabled veteran, the nominal owner. Ziegler apparently never actually ran the company day-to-day or was in control of the company’s long-term vision.
