Klaus Schwab, the ringmaster of the World Economic Forum in Davos, has been known to inform his subordinates that he hopes to win the Nobel Peace Prize one day. Oslo has failed to ring, which comes as no surprise to anyone. Schwab’s most notable achievement is unmistakably entrepreneurial. He has transformed the Forum from a somber gathering of policy wonks into a sparkling gathering of the world’s wealthiest individuals. He has done so by ingratiating himself with individuals in positions of power, particularly the billionaire class, which he refers to as the Davos Man tribe. Schwab has created a haven for the obscenely affluent, an exclusive zone where they are allowed to seek deals and other antics while claiming to be involved in a good cause.
