Approximately 150 Special Forces were hurt while participating in the UK’s “secret war” against Islamic State in Syria.
Following a recent Ministry of Defense report on fatalities and injuries sustained during Operation Shader, the campaign against the terrorist organization also known as ISIS or Daesh, a source disclosed the casualties. The majority of them were dispatched to Iraq, where the British Army provided ground support and trained coalition troops while the Royal Navy and RAF provided a combination of humanitarian aid and up to 1,700 airstrikes against IS targets. A number of SAS, SBS, and Special Forces Support Group squadrons were also sent by UK into Syria, where they were entrusted with collaborating with their American counterparts to prevent Islamists from entering Iraq.
