Going keto and cutting out carbs may prevent DIABETES, research suggests | Daily Mail

Must Read

According to a study, pre-diabetics can drastically drop their blood sugar levels by following an ultra-low-carb diet.

On the ketogenic diet, carbohydrates are severely reduced while foods high in fat and protein are consumed instead. Advocates assert a wide range of health advantages, from maintaining mental acuity to enhancing heart health. The most recent study suggests that the diet can prevent type 2 diabetes for people who are most at risk, despite the fact that many of the claims have turned out to be untrue or unprovable. 150 persons between the ages of 40 and 70 with blood sugar levels between that of prediabetes and diabetes who were not taking medication for the illness were studied. Findings were described as “small but clinically meaningful” by the principal author and assistant professor of epidemiology at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Dr. Kirsten Dorans. In order to better control their blood sugar, the American Diabetes Association officially advises patients with diabetes and prediabetes to follow low-carb, low-glycemic index, and high-protein diets.
