In 1904-1908, Namibia was a colony of Germany where thousands of people lost their lives after colonial forces suppressed uprisings by two of the country’s main peoples, the Herero and Nama. In 2015, Germany acknowledged that the atrocities constituted genocide and promised to make a formal apology. This deal could have finally healed the wounds of what’s now widely known as genocide by colonial forces. Descendants of both victims and colonizers are still fighting their way to get the justice they deserve.
