On Thursday, General Atomics demonstrated a new drone that can contain 16 Hellfire missiles and launch from a dirt road or an aircraft carrier. The drone, dubbed Mojave, is aimed at special forces engaging in the kinds of battles that have consumed the US military’s focus for the previous two decades.
At a time when defense industries are promoting hypersonic missiles, stealth bombers, and intercontinental ballistic missiles aimed at fighting a war with a peer competitor, the Mojave disclosure demonstrates that counterinsurgency weapons are still being developed.
