The Department of Energy and General Atomics have reached an agreement on a financial award for an industry team to establish rare earth element extraction and processing plants.
The firm’s electromagnetic systems business will run the team that will build and run the REE showcase facility during the course of the 40-month project, the company announced Thursday.
Following the group’s decision to implement the project under the Critical Materials Funding Opportunity Announcement, DOE chose and informed GA-EMS to negotiate the terms of the deal in March.
The project team includes individuals from General Atomics’ European branch, Rare Element Resources, and Ardurra Group’s LNV subsidiary. The demonstration plant will be built to help with the separation and purification of rare earth oxides from a Wyoming mining source.
