The Iraqi Security Force, or ISF, whose troops hail from various parts of Iraq and have a variety of backgrounds, is where Qwat al-Khasah or SFI (Special Forces of Iraq) are hand-selected from.
They see themselves as a non-sectarian, specialized fighting force that always puts their country first and is prepared to respond to the call for help in defending the country. A specialized light fighting force, the Qwat al-Khasah is equipped for quick infiltration, raids, ambushes, aerial and ground surveillance, and clearing large areas. The group receives training with a variety of weaponry, including mortar systems and light machine guns. “When the Qwat al-Khasah arrives at locations throughout Iraq, just their presence in the area has a stabilizing effect as they are highly respected by the people for their humanity and outreach to locals, but also because of their skill at closing with and destroying Daesh.,” states the U.S. The SFI is currently receiving advice on operations against Daesh from the Special Forces Commander.
