According to the Information Ministry, at least 61 al-Shabaab terrorists were killed and dozens more were injured in Somalia following an operation by the country’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
The operation against the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group in Somalia’s south-central province of Middle Shabelle was supported by the country’s international partners. According to the ministry, the operation targeted Khawarij militants, with an estimated 150 planning to attack the national army and local troops in Hawadlay. It is the first major operation carried out by the army, backed by international allies, against terrorist militants in the Horn of Africa nation since the start of the year.
