Soumana Boura was the name of the suspect who French forces say they have eliminated. He is purportedly one of the higher ups within the Greater Sahara faction of Islamic State.
Colonel Pascal Ianni told French press members that Boura had filmed the execution of the eight victims and published the footage through their various channels.
The boss of the Islamic State Greater Sahara Adnan Abou Walid al-Sahraoui, who is suspected of ordering the execution was killed in August by French forces. Eleven others implicated in the murder have been arrested in Niger in recent months.
