France has banned Israeli defense companies from participating in the upcoming Euronaval military naval trade show, scheduled to take place from November 4 to 7 in Paris. This move has caused tensions between the two nations, with Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant calling the decision a “disgrace.” The ban comes as part of growing strains in the France-Israel relationship, which have been exacerbated by French President Emmanuel Macron’s criticism of Israeli military operations in Gaza and Lebanon, particularly the civilian casualties caused during campaigns against Hezbollah and Hamas.
Seven Israeli defense firms are affected by this ban, and while Israeli delegations will still be allowed to attend the show, they are prohibited from setting up stands or displaying any hardware. This is not the first time France has taken such action. Earlier this year, the French government banned Israeli companies from exhibiting at the Eurosatory defense trade show, though the ban was later overturned by the French courts.
The French Defense Ministry has not issued a formal comment on the decision. However, it appears aligned with Macron’s recent stance, which calls for halting arms exports used in conflicts involving Israel. This decision reflects France’s growing concerns over the ongoing violence and civilian casualties in the region.
Gallant condemned the French government’s actions, accusing Macron of aiding Israel’s enemies by discriminating against Israeli defense industries at such a critical time. He emphasized that Israel would continue to defend itself with or without French support.
