Retired Navy SEAL and former CIA contractor Shawn Ryan have released footage of what is believed to be the world’s longest sniper shot, prompting a cease-and-desist letter from Canada’s Special Operations Forces Command.
The footage was taken in 2017 and showed an unnamed sniper from the Joint Task Force Two (JTF2) special operations unit killing an ISIS terrorist at a distance of 3,540 meters with a McMillan Tac-50 anti-material rifle. The Canadian military claims the footage was not authorized for release. Ryan, who interviewed former JTF2 sniper Dallas Alexander on his podcast, has pulled the episode and stated he did not want to publish classified material. The cease-and-desist letter was criticized by Ryan, who said it was an attempt to silence Alexander from discussing why he left JTF2, which was reportedly over the Canadian military’s mandatory COVID-19 vaccine requirement.
