In an effort to further cut off supplies to the contractor over its role in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration put additional restrictions on technology exports to Russia’s Wagner military group on Wednesday.
The Wagner organization, which was added to a trade blacklist in 2017 following Russia’s annexation of the Crimean Peninsula of Ukraine, will now be categorized as a military end user and face strict new restrictions on access to technology created elsewhere in the world with U.S. equipment. The action is a show of solidarity for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who visited the White House on Wednesday and received fresh promises of U.S. backing amid Russia’s ongoing assault on Ukraine, as first reported by Reuters.
