The Twitter bot was created by Jack Sweeney, a 19-year-old freshman at the University of Central Florida. Elon Musk sneaked into Sweeney’s DMs last month, and the latter began the chat by requesting a minor favor: would Sweeney remove the chatbot that had publicized his personal plane’s location? What if he tossed in $5,000 to seal the deal? Sweeney responded to Musk’s offer with a demand for a larger sum of $50,000. Alternatively, how about a Tesla Model 3? Musk, one of the world’s wealthiest people, said he’d think about it but didn’t follow up. Sweeney is as perplexed as we are as to why Musk is now anxious about the tracking bot and the alleged security danger.
