The Marine Corps is testing its abilities to defend the United States from cyberattacks.
Cyber Yankee drills mimic a cyber-assault on the nation’s critical infrastructure. During a battle with the United States, an adversary might attempt to disrupt electricity and water supply by severing access to regional power sources or flowing water. The national guards of the New England states are collaborating on this drill. Cyber Yankee 2022, the U.S. Marine Corps’ most recently cyber warfare exercise, focused on the danger posed by cybercriminals and hackers. The simulation follows the Marine Corps’ MCDP 8, a manual for winning the informational war.
