Corporal Dominic Abelen believed to have worked for Special Forces foreign military unit | RNZ

Must Read

Dominic Abelen, a New Zealander, is thought to have been a member of the Special Forces Wing, slain in Ukraine while on unpaid leave three weeks ago.

A representative for a foreign military unit in Ukraine said that the army would do everything possible to retrieve the corpse of Corporal Dominic Abelen, a New Zealander. Abelen was slain on unpaid leave from the New Zealand Defense Force three weeks ago. The communications director of Ukraine’s International Legion of Defence assumed that Abelen worked for the Legionnaires Special Service Group, a Special Forces branch (LSSG).

“All legionnaires sign a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine and become servicemen in the Ukrainian Army, which means we have the same legal protections as Ukrainian servicemen, we have the same obligations, we must [abide by] the same laws as Ukrainian servicemen, we receive the same pay, we essentially become Ukrainian soldiers and serve alongside them.” – Mockingjay
