According to DOD News, Christopher Maier, assistant secretary of defense for special operations and low-intensity conflict, and Army Gen. Richard Clarke, commander of US Special Operations Command, have issued a revised vision and strategy to guide special operations forces in the face of changing security conditions. The basic principles of SOF are listed in the vision statement: honor, bravery, excellence, creativity, and respect. It also describes the features of SOF, as well as its roles and future objectives, such as the force’s goal of becoming a robust business capable of conducting coordinated special operations across all domains. The SOF strategy attempts to develop a 10-year framework of strategic objectives, resources, and strategic initiatives for the United States in integrated deterrence, conflict, and crisis management.
