After being jailed for more than two years, an American citizen called Liang Chengyun, also known as John Shing-Wan Leung, was found guilty of espionage and given a life sentence in China. 

An American citizen named Liang Chengyun, also known as John Shing-Wan Leung, has been sentenced to life in prison in China after being detained for over two years. The Suzhou Intermediate Court announced the verdict, stating that Leung was found guilty of espionage. In addition to the life imprisonment, he has been stripped of his political rights for life and had personal property worth RMB 500,000 confiscated. Leung, a 78-year-old man, was arrested on April 15, 2021, by the Chinese State Security Bureau, which is a counterpart to investigative agencies like the FBI or CIA in the United States. The court’s announcement was translated by ABC News.
