As regional tensions grow, the Canadian military has been entrusted with training Ukrainian troops on the ground.
According to reports cited by Global News, the Canadian Special Operations Command personnel is training Ukrainian troops on the ground. Defense Minister Anita Anand recently revealed intentions to train Ukrainian recruits in the United Kingdom. Sources indicate that special operations forces are also assisting the transport of weapons and equipment. Due to operational security considerations, Global News will not disclose which units are involved. It would be foolish, according to Canadian Defense Minister Navinder Anand, for her to remark on the deployment of Canadian special troops in Ukraine.
Anand revealed on Thursday that up to 225 troops of the Canadian Forces would be sent to the United Kingdom. They will instruct Ukrainian recruits on front-line fighting and the international law governing battle. Training assistance will concentrate on introducing Ukrainians to the usage of M777 howitzers and providing cyber support via Canada’s electronic surveillance agency.
