Must Read

Questions of readiness can be asked of all the branches of the military, but the Navy in particular has not participated in a large scale battle since Okinawa in 1945. They were involved in Korea, Vietnam and Iraq but most sailors in harm’s way were either SEALs, naval aviation, and naval construction battalions. There were hair raising cat and mouse games between Russian and  American subs during the Cold War but no admirals commanded fleets battling other fleets. The embarrassing episode of the fire aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard may have been a one off event but junior officers across the Navy report a decline in leadership, morale, and readiness.
