A senior British army commander has acknowledged that British Royal Marines have been sent to Ukraine for “discreet operations.”
One of the three acting chiefs of staff for defense in the British military, Lieutenant General Robert Magowan oversaw the Royal Marines until 2020. In order to evacuate the British embassy in Kyiv to Poland, 350 marines from 45 Commando Group were “deployed at short notice — from the depths of a dark, north Norwegian winter,” according to Magowan. According to a remark from Magowan “We have been highly involved in training hundreds of Ukrainian military troops over this summer, in addition to wider defense. Additionally, they intend to train Ukrainian marines.
