According to a news release from December, the 3rd Special Units Group is testing a new mortar system platform that special operations forces all over the world may employ.
The system is being developed and tested by the 3rd Special Forces Group in collaboration with Elbit Systems of America, which makes 120mm mortar armament systems in Fort Worth, Texas. In September, Elbit revealed a $49 million, five-year deal with the Army. At the time, firm representatives stated that the contract was issued following the successful conclusion of a similar deal that had been given to the company in 2016. The Special Forces personnel at Fort Bragg are putting the “Sling” technology to the test, which is currently in its final phases of development.
